We are seeking a passionate and skilled Japanese to English Translator specialized in the localization of Japanese Light Novels. This is a full-time, on-site position perfect for candidates who have a deep understanding of not only the language but also the unique culture surrounding Japanese Light Novels, including otaku and weeb communities.

About the Role

As our Japanese to English Translator, you will be responsible for accurately translating and localizing Japanese Light Novels, ensuring that the cultural nuances and storytelling style resonate with the English-speaking audience. Your expertise in both the Japanese language and the subculture will help preserve the original charm and spirit of the novels while making them accessible and enjoyable for a new audience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Translate Japanese Light Novels into natural, engaging English, preserving meaning and tone.
2. Localize cultural references, idioms, and expressions to enhance readability and immersion.
3. Collaborate with editors and other team members to ensure translation quality and consistency.
4. Maintain awareness of trends and terminology within light novel and broader otaku culture.
5. Meet project deadlines and manage full-time translation workload on-site.

Required Qualifications

1. Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 or equivalent mastery of Japanese.
2. Extensive experience reading and familiarity with Japanese Light Novels and related otaku/weeb culture.
3. Strong command of English translation and localization techniques.
4. Ability to work full-time, on-site, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desired Qualifications

1. Previous professional translation or localization experience, especially in light novels, manga, or anime industries.
